Fall Term 2009–2010
August 1, Saturday
Applications for non-resident status for the fall term or academic year for graduate students are due in department offices.
Applications for part-time graduate study due in the GSAS Dean’s Office, Holyoke Center, 3rd floor.
August 10, Monday
Graduation applications for November 2009 degrees (AM, SM, ME, MFS, and PhD) must be submitted on or before this date.
Last day upon which November 2009 graduate degree candidates may submit a completed and signed application for a secondary field.
August 26, Wednesday
Registration must be completed for all graduate students in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.
Registration must be completed for special students and visiting fellows in the GSAS.
August 26, Wednesday, through August 27, Thursday
Derek Bok Center Teaching Orientation for teaching fellows and faculty members.
August 31, Monday
Registration must be completed for all freshmen and new transfer students in Harvard College.
September 1, Tuesday
Registration must be completed for all returning and continuing undergraduate students in Harvard College.
Registration must be completed for all visiting undergraduate students in Harvard College.
Academic Year Begins
September 2, Wednesday
Academic year begins. First meeting of fall term classes, following a Monday schedule. Courses scheduled to meet on Mondays will meet on September 2; courses that meet Wednesday only are scheduled to hold class for the first time on September 9.

University Holiday: Labor Day
Study Card Day: September 10, Thursday
Completed study cards for upperclassmen will be collected at the Houses and are due before 5 pm. Completed study cards for graduate students and special students are due in Dudley House, Lehman Hall, before 5 pm. Course lists available online at www.my.harvard.edu as study cards are processed.
September 11, Friday
Completed study cards for freshmen are due between 9 am and 5 pm in Faculty Room, 2nd Floor, University Hall. Completed study cards for new transfer students and visiting undergraduates are due between 9 am and 5 pm at the Lehman Hall Common Room.
Last day upon which undergraduates may register late for the fall term.
Last day upon which undergraduates may cancel their registration for the fall term without payment of tuition.
Last day upon which undergraduates may complete cross-registration.
September 18, Friday
Undergraduate applications for November 2009 degrees (AB and SB) must be submitted on or before this date.
September 21, Monday
Last day upon which undergraduates may drop or add any course without a fee.
September 23, Wednesday
Last day upon which students from other schools may complete cross-registration in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.
October 1, Thursday
Last day upon which graduate students may cancel their registration for the fall term without payment of tuition.
Approved graduate dissertations due for November degree candidates.
October 5, Monday
Fifth Monday of the term. Last day upon which undergraduates may drop or add any course or change the grade status of a letter-graded or Pass/Fail course.
Makeup examinations for 2008–2009 spring term begin.
October 12, Monday
University holiday: Columbus Day.
October 13, Tuesday
Midterm grades (including unsatisfactory grade reports) due before 5 pm for undergraduates.
October 19, Monday
Seventh Monday of the term. Last day upon which undergraduates may petition to withdraw from a fall term course.
Last day upon which March 2010 degree candidates (AB and SB) may submit a completed and signed petition for a secondary field to the Office of the Registrar. There are no exceptions to this deadline.
Last day upon which graduate students may register for or add fall term courses. After this date, graduate students may add or register for TIME only.

Last day to change concentration for March 2010 degree candidates without Administrative Board approval.
Last day upon which March 2010 degree candidates (AB and SB) may file for a foreign language citation study plan.
Advanced Standing eligible students planning to graduate after six or seven terms in March 2011, or to begin a fourth year AM program in spring term 2011, must file “Advanced Standing Activation Form” by this date.
